Wednesday Report: Ulduar 25 Session

June 4, 2009

Hey fellow readers, after nearly 5 days of abstinence I logged into the game yesterday again. I planned nothing concrete; if my fellow 2v2 partner would be online I would have loved to play some games, If not I would continue my scribe business and hope for an Ulduard 25 raid. Wednesday is usually a good day for it, since everybody gets a new ID after the reset. And there are quite some raids outside looking for a healer.
Since, I usually match their equipment wish list and at least have a chance to grab the slot against other competition guys.
Most of the Items I wear are 213ilvl enchanted and socked. So the holy Paladin has around 2200 spell power, 22% crit, 320 mana reg. After I made a quick journey to Oggrima to get the check made I had 15min to prepare the raid. I bought wyrm flask for 30g each (125 Spell power, prolongs after death 1h) made the repair and stacked some symbols for buffing.

Funny side note:
– not even one mage was in the raid.
– on rogue was more offline than online
– raid consists of maybe 2/3 raid interns

My major drawback is that I still lack to heal in big numbers and I have no idea what the reason. (If you look into recount I sit about 1000k to 1700k heals) What is the reason for that?
I have no hots, so I have to spam heals.
I could spam the huge heals 15-20K+ crits: But those are critical since they may hit to late.
If I only spam my small heals: I could heal for ever the many is not going down.
I could use back on of live to heal to target at once. But who should benefit from the main heals.

The main reason is:

I am not familiar with the fights and have no idea what this particular group is going to do. This raid considers themselves as pretty good and no need for explanation.
Everything was addressed in general and nobody felt it would be necessary to say something concrete.

Statements where like:
The overall damage is to bad.
Heals are to bad.

I am quit sure at least for me that I tried to do the best I could. Looking at the Razor drake fight:

A) Healers have a range problem. I had no idea who of the suffering guys would be in range.
B) No healer where assigned to a MT.
C) It was even unclear to me who the 3 MT are.

Part of the problem was: Over TS the Austria guys are really tough to understand for a northern German.

So we wiped. Healers where assigned to their tasks and everything went very smooth up to the moment of phase 2. I had no idea where the MT would move to. As a healer you have to follow otherwise an unlucky situation may occur where you start and a heal and end up out of range. What I did not now, two tanks would be enough to finish the job, so don’t make you to much stress.

We wiped several times on trash on the way to this Boss with arm fights. We had only hunters, warlocks and rogues for good cc. One of the rogue was not following any orders so we had only one zap.
The mood got lower as often as we wiped. For me it was hard to heal. Players with aggro die fast even a tank, that did not start in the beginning but took an add after it got free. Nothing was said from the raid lead so I could only guess.

Moral of the story:

You can kill bosses in Ulduar 25. But for me as always communication is the key. Tell not only dps and cc what they are expected to do, also healer. If you played together frequently just tell the new guy what his role would be.
In the time of MC we had even channels for healers, where they made sure who would heal whom.
I liked the trip into Ulduar even if it ended earlier. I even could pick up some shoulders.

Afterwards I finally downed the last boss of Oculus heroic. We had 5 tries on him. Set up was 2 healers, 2 dps, one tank. We lost one healer but got the job done. The drop was a nice mage damage stuff I would like to have for my alt. So I will be there more often with my mage the moment he will hit 80.

Since this trip again cost me more than 90min I only had a couple of minutes left for my inscription business. I finally set up may AH seller in Oggrima with 4 inscription bags and 100g starting. I will now produce with my mage and sent to the inscription AH alt. I hope to make some money this way.

My weekend plans are not sure yet. Either I will take part in a triathlon some 100km away or will be able to play. (Leveling the mage, he now has 2mio rested exp should be enough for two levels)
If possible I would love to do more 2v2 with my warlock mate.

How I made my first 20k Gold WoW

May 14, 2009

Finally I made it. After 3 years of being poor as the church mice.

How did I finally do it?

I found out by myself that it brings much better money as a startup in collecting things and sell afterwards, because I had absolutely no spare money to max a profession. I mean I did once with my alliance alchemist, but where only able to make some decent profit. All my collected herbs went into leveling my alchemist profession; each product did not sell well.

I always had enough money to buy the repairs and in need could go collect some herbs an made my raid pots.

With my DK running from 58 to 80 I realized that I would like to have a steady income. Even the low level mining ores could be sold for profit. It was insane easy to get the skill up to 250. Thanks to the fast mount and all flight points available. Just some internet research which places to go for farming.
In the 250 range I went to Winterspring. I always loved that area. I needed some extra material from that area to finally being able to provide my jewel crafter with materials for his profession. So reaching 80 I was at least able to have the frost flying skill on a slow mount.
At around that time I came across the page of Gevlon. I read through all is stuff. All his hints and strategies.
So I installed auctioneer and give inscription as profession to my mage. At that time I had no idea how the inscription would work. But this profession gives you money from the start. I think with only 60 skill points you are ready to learn one minor glyph each day. Those glyphs are much rarer than the others.
The algorithm to learn the glyphs take into account what you can produce with your skill. So I started selling immediately for profit several minor glyphs. And stacking more and more herbs. Interestingly, I have now a skill of 430 inscriptions and never picked up a herb myself. I made a profit of 20k something. This was mainly due to the patch that everybody needs a second set of Glyphs for the off speck.
Now with everything cooling down I only make maybe 1-2K a week. The reason is that we have now a lot of more aggressive sellers. They are able to underbid you within 10min. I think they have an add-on for that but at the moment I am only guessing.
Solution for this problem is that you can offer your glyphs directly by undercutting the market in an unofficial way, e.g. I can produce explosive shot, one new glyph out of the book of inscription. I can not sell via AH since someone is monitoring there. Price is between 50-130g.
So I am offering the glyph directly and sell for 40-60g, Still making some nice profit.

For a while I also made a decent profit by producing gems. Some gems can be learned. Some are bop drops from dungeons and some have to be bought from JC daily. So I know that +hit is a very good gem and would be needed a lot. Since the learning is an equivalent to 200g you have to sell some gems with profit to make it worthy.

In the beginning i bought all raw gems for 30-37g could be up to 30 of them. And sell the +hit gems for 50-55g. This way it was not that easy to underbid me. Since at least you have to invest 37-45g for the raw.
Nowadays, the price is down to 20g for raw. And more producers are out. But on occasional days it still works.
With more money coming in you can also think about producing epic necklace or rings. The initial investment is around 6*100g. So you have to sell with profit again.
Here you have the problem that some JC craft those for free if you ask them and have the materials ready.
This is really bad for the economy and I would never do this.

My last and current project is enchanting. Since I can make the scrolls I can put those into the AH also. Let me say even with a tailor in hand this is a very expensive profession in my experience.
And on a side note you can make nice profit in AH as a blacksmith by offering the different rods for the right price. Some have been so much overpriced 350% that I searched an blacksmith myself and tipped him with 10g. So make sure that your rods are in AH always for 24h.
Now the enchanter is 390 and can make useful enchants. It is still very slow, since the material costs are amazingly high and I am still trying only to buy the mats in the 56%-110% range.
At least the scrolls should be selling now.

Outlook: I will try to pick up some more books of glyphs. But it feels more like a Russian roulette at the moment. Some glyphs are driven so ridiculous low that no profit can be made. At the moment I think a good price for a book would be 100g.

With this many professions, I should be able to stabilize my income and make steady progress.

Keep in mind I am only 3 days a week online.

Summary:

It took me 3 month from 1K gold to 30K.
In this time I leveld my mage from 39 to 65
I stuffed my paladin with lots of Naxx 25 /10 epics

Investment per week maybe 10-15 hours.

Good luck to you all
