2v2: 6 fast games (2 wins)

I planned only to do some fast AH canceling and reposting and ended up doing 6 games with my all mighty warlock mate.

We lost 4 games due to bad preparation, mainly on my side. We had a break of playing together for maybe two weeks and I was out of practice. It was pity but reloging into my paladin after doing Ulduar 25 raid last week I had the interface set up to raids. Therefore, the group pictures where not shown into arena. Somehow the checkbox “do not show group in raids” considers arena matches also as raids.

In one match the opposing team made lot of pressure onto my warlock. I thought he was dead. Irritated by the missing frame of him. But he was not. The moment I realized (couple of seconds) he was dead.
Maybe the problem is also that we are both have to press button to speak via Team speak. Therefore, communication is limited.

Another mistake witch is very bad within an arena math is the targeting of my team members with the F1 F2 F3 … keys. If you have a teammate with a pet, you get the pet into target if you press the F2 button again. Damn.
Its an extremly sad moment when you realize that you are not healing your mate but the pet instead.

After 2-3 games we where getting better. At least I felt much more comfortable with my key bindings and situational awareness. We one 2 games out of those. Mainly because my warlock mate is very good with fearing other players and self heals. In many matches he is doing more heals than the opposing healer. Funny.

Moral:

It was great to be back into arena. Even if I have not thought about it, I missed it.
We need more practice and we will further improve.

Remarks:

Check your heal target more carefully
Set up the fear undead pet combo: focus macro, fear focus macro (instant due to glyph)
Double check gear after using outfitter, should have 450 resilience, 2000 spell power, 18K mana, 19K live.

Next games will be played on Thursday 2pm. (German public holiday in some regions)

Wednesday Report: Ulduar 25 Session

Hey fellow readers, after nearly 5 days of abstinence I logged into the game yesterday again. I planned nothing concrete; if my fellow 2v2 partner would be online I would have loved to play some games, If not I would continue my scribe business and hope for an Ulduard 25 raid. Wednesday is usually a good day for it, since everybody gets a new ID after the reset. And there are quite some raids outside looking for a healer.
Since, I usually match their equipment wish list and at least have a chance to grab the slot against other competition guys.
Most of the Items I wear are 213ilvl enchanted and socked. So the holy Paladin has around 2200 spell power, 22% crit, 320 mana reg. After I made a quick journey to Oggrima to get the check made I had 15min to prepare the raid. I bought wyrm flask for 30g each (125 Spell power, prolongs after death 1h) made the repair and stacked some symbols for buffing.

Funny side note:
– not even one mage was in the raid.
– on rogue was more offline than online
– raid consists of maybe 2/3 raid interns

My major drawback is that I still lack to heal in big numbers and I have no idea what the reason. (If you look into recount I sit about 1000k to 1700k heals) What is the reason for that?
I have no hots, so I have to spam heals.
I could spam the huge heals 15-20K+ crits: But those are critical since they may hit to late.
If I only spam my small heals: I could heal for ever the many is not going down.
I could use back on of live to heal to target at once. But who should benefit from the main heals.

The main reason is:

I am not familiar with the fights and have no idea what this particular group is going to do. This raid considers themselves as pretty good and no need for explanation.
Everything was addressed in general and nobody felt it would be necessary to say something concrete.

Statements where like:
The overall damage is to bad.
Heals are to bad.

I am quit sure at least for me that I tried to do the best I could. Looking at the Razor drake fight:

A) Healers have a range problem. I had no idea who of the suffering guys would be in range.
B) No healer where assigned to a MT.
C) It was even unclear to me who the 3 MT are.

Part of the problem was: Over TS the Austria guys are really tough to understand for a northern German.

So we wiped. Healers where assigned to their tasks and everything went very smooth up to the moment of phase 2. I had no idea where the MT would move to. As a healer you have to follow otherwise an unlucky situation may occur where you start and a heal and end up out of range. What I did not now, two tanks would be enough to finish the job, so don’t make you to much stress.

We wiped several times on trash on the way to this Boss with arm fights. We had only hunters, warlocks and rogues for good cc. One of the rogue was not following any orders so we had only one zap.
The mood got lower as often as we wiped. For me it was hard to heal. Players with aggro die fast even a tank, that did not start in the beginning but took an add after it got free. Nothing was said from the raid lead so I could only guess.

Moral of the story:

You can kill bosses in Ulduar 25. But for me as always communication is the key. Tell not only dps and cc what they are expected to do, also healer. If you played together frequently just tell the new guy what his role would be.
In the time of MC we had even channels for healers, where they made sure who would heal whom.
I liked the trip into Ulduar even if it ended earlier. I even could pick up some shoulders.

Afterwards I finally downed the last boss of Oculus heroic. We had 5 tries on him. Set up was 2 healers, 2 dps, one tank. We lost one healer but got the job done. The drop was a nice mage damage stuff I would like to have for my alt. So I will be there more often with my mage the moment he will hit 80.

Since this trip again cost me more than 90min I only had a couple of minutes left for my inscription business. I finally set up may AH seller in Oggrima with 4 inscription bags and 100g starting. I will now produce with my mage and sent to the inscription AH alt. I hope to make some money this way.

My weekend plans are not sure yet. Either I will take part in a triathlon some 100km away or will be able to play. (Leveling the mage, he now has 2mio rested exp should be enough for two levels)
If possible I would love to do more 2v2 with my warlock mate.

8am and 1K Winter done

Wednesday is a random day. I have a couple of minutes at around 7.30am to 8.30am. Usually it is not clear if I will be able to log into the game or not, due to down time of the server. Several weeks after the big 3.1 patch the scheduled downtime was till 11am. Since two or three weeks this changed and I was able to log in.
Today was the same. Usually I will do some inscription research, buy some cheap herbs I am looking for, or doing even the JC daily. Nothing serious, it is just enjoying the game atmosphere before I head over to work.
This time I just logged into, when I see the handel’s channel, someone states that 1K winter is starting right at this moment. So I logged into my holy paladin asked for an invite and off we where. My mood jumped down slightly at the moment I realized that we were on defense. Since we have no choice in selection, this was the way to go.

This was the second BG for me at this time, and I had recognized some weeks ago that at that time not that much player are online and fighting for glory. So we where maybe 30-35 player on defense, end even less on offence.
This seems to result into a scaling of the smaller group. I have seen a fighting shaman with 30K life and a DK was reported with 40K life. Usually I keep myself a little bit in the background but with this few players it was not possible so I have been target 4-6 times in this match. One ret paladin nuked me and the unlucky priest beside me in only two seconds. It was that fast that I not even thought about my bubble being necessary, awesome.

Maybe five of us have been in the offence and fighting successful on the tower, whilst the rest of us kept on defense duty for our fortress. The alliance manages to break through the front door 10min to go. They even managed to keep attacking as one big group. But thanks to our horde team we stayedtogether as well kept them out for the remaining of the game.

Pros: Win, no lag at all
Cons: Does not feel that epic like 3+ 40man raids against opposing 3+ 40 raids.

Mission Completed

Man that was tough. As I mentioned earlier I am an absolute beginner in the sense of pvp. I have no idea what is necessary to pull out a win. How did it work this time?
We played against two hunters, both rushing hard on us. The warlock made some port actions but finally was nuked down, due to my lack of faster reaction in line of sight. Still an area of improvement, you have to know not only where your team mate is standing, also where will he head to and what amount of healing is necessary. So he was dead and it was me against two hunters.

My mate cheered on me, move under the bridge, one of the hunter will die due to the dots. Okay I jumped, an luckily one of the hunter really died. So my WL mate gave me the instructions how to act against a beast master with his annoying pet. Run, judge and hide. I really had at first get used to it. The run and hide part was the easy part. I could easy heal me up, with holy shock and my shield. Some small heals in between would be enough. The hunter tried to get my mana out of me with his viper shot. This was dispelled by me, thanks to my WL mate and me looking to the green color around my unit frame.

But how to kill the BM. He had around 18k live and a good restoring of that life. I tried to go after him from time to time with holy shock and my judgments, but this was by far not enough. One reason was probably that I was still running with my holy seal, this should be switched to something more offensive.
But mainly it was due to my lack of doing burst without being slowed all the time. So I needed a good combination of Hand of freedom, my stun hammer, and targeting this annoying BM. After many tries, I was getting better and more confident in the task. And decided to give it the final try, though the improvements he was down to 2/3 of his live and I got after him. Judgments and shocks where used on cool down this time and my hammer kept him in range for my shield bashes.
And finally he was below 20%. And I could throw my hammer of wrath. Now he was running. but no way for him to get away, my judges and hammers can be thrown from really far away.
This was for sure not the most genius win ever but at least gives me some confidents that it can be achieved.

Thinking back, what can be improved?

Work with the wings.
At least after the emergency bubble was used, there is no reason to not use my wings, and this way doing more pressure.

Improve targeting of opposing player.

Next steps:

Level my mage from 69 to 71. I want to be able to create moon cloth.
Look for the new argent tournament. At least give it a try.
Buy the fast flying for the DK.
Level my new shaman from 5-12 and bring him to oggrima. He should sell my glyphs.

All PvP’lers hear this, tonight is battletime

After 3 days without playing. It is Wednesday again, this means today start the next run for points in arena. On Sunday evening I joined my first 3v3 team. And holy good we sucked. We started with the setup Dot-Warlock, Destruction-Warlock an myself as holy paladin. Is still have no clues to separate one WL from the other but probably some have advantages above the other. The plan was, that the Destruction-WL would be able to kill one opponent player faster than they would be able to kill us.

The main changes for my side, 2v2 as my experience so far, I am know more often either main target or crowd controlled. This way, I saw our side more often loosing than that we ware able to pull out a victory. So we switched the Dest.-WL to a Warrior with mortal strike. This way the match last a little bit longer, but I was still not able to give a victory through good moves.

I have to improve, but also we have to find a valid strategy as a team to work with.
It was hard for me to figure out if I was now main target or should be close to my mates to heal them. In 2v2 you usually have at least some time to get close and make the heal. In 3v3 everything is much more urgent. And it is also very hard to run between my two mates to heal them if they are separated.

One match we played against two healers, and where not able to down any player. And after a couple of minutes the opposing ret paladin was able to down me. Sure somehow my mistake, but after 7 minutes you should also expect that the first opposing player is down.

One game was great because it was that close we have been in 3v2 lead. But shortly after the kill lost our first WL; me and the opposing healer dying at the same time. In the end it was our destro. WL against the opposing DK and he managed to pull out our win.

This is still my aim to archive, if left in 2v2 match alone against opposing damage dealer, I want to will pull out the win, man was it close last time. I have to keep myself under control and do the right things.

Oh I totally forget: We managed to win 10 straight games in 2v2 in the region of 870 team rating. We now have a rating from 1030 and looking forward to improve in this area.

Funny side note is that my teammate didn’t notice that he still was not using the best version of his spell. He only lately hit 80 and they did not update automatically. Strange.

So thumbs up, hope for much fun today.

My first experience on Arena 2v2 (80er)

So finally I decide to write something to the world outside. So this is my first post. Free welcome to make comments.

It took me around 4-6 hours of preparation. I changed some of my emblems into epic PVP equip. I was finally lucky to at least get gloves and trousers from Archavon. I had some 1K winter emblems and some 60K honor to spent.
With all sockets used for resilience and proper enchanting I could come up to 710 resilience. I have no idea if this is good or not, but at least it gives me the feeling of preparation.
The rest of the equip is some 213/200 ilvl stuff.

So now it is up to me to find another team member for arena. I don’t like the thought of running with a high equipped and experienced char, since I was quit sure that I don’t even had a clue how to perform well. And man was I right, I had absolutely no clue. Therefore, I want to share my thoughts from yesterday.

I teamed up with a warlock who is an alt of an holy paladin. I meet him some weeks before, where I could join his 5v5. At that time I learned being focus without any resilience is a bad situation.
This warlock has some 1300 spell power which leads to the idea that there will be allot of room for improvement. But he has experience and he is a dot warlock. After our first 2 games which we lost of course I was introduced into the concept of run and hide. Since most games would with our team look like this if opposing team has one healer and one dd. They will try to eliminate the WL. But the damage they do is in the team rating around 800 not that much. It can be handled very easily. Thinks get only tricky if they get me into crowd control chains and do there burst.
So being out of range for there fears, dots, sheep’s was really very helpful.
After I got myself out of the line more and more, we start winning games. Now it comes to the point of communication and executions.

Hitting the right buttons on the right target is tough?

You may ask why? Let me explain the problem. I was always a fan of getting my heal target by pressing the F1 or F2. The bad thing here is if you press F2 you may end up with the pet in target. This at least cost us 3 games.
How do I plan to improve: There are several blogs speaking about gaming devices. I will buy a gamers mouse. I will try to figure out how to use the best key binding. I will build suitable macros for modifiers. I expect all those changes will take me a lot of time. But for now I decided that I will go into that direction.

Did I have fun. Yes due to the skill of my warlock it was great. He had lots of suggestions on special situation and was very positive at the moment I made something right. It is always a very good attitude if you don’t blame a beginner, but instead help to improve and to compliment on the progression.

Lesson learned:

– Blood elf ability to silence enemy caster grants you also 6% mana for free. (Stupid me that I missed that)
– 25% mana regen / min reduces the healing with 50% (autsch, that was a biggest mistake so far)
– 30seconds after poping of wings no pala bubble possible.
– Instant heal holy shock comes skilled with an additional instant small heal. (great while running away)
– If your close weaver is under main attack at the beginning of the match, give him hand of protection (no melee damage anymore), if this runs out give him another hand which transfers damage from him to you.
